For 20 years, San Diego Cooperative Charter School (SDCCS) has been educating TK-8 students with a tuition-free curriculum that engages and inspires. The ways that we have delivered this education have grown and evolved over the past two decades, but one element has remained the same: our commitment to innovation and excellence. Here are a few examples of how that commitment is being applied today!
Cross-Age & Cross-Curriculum Connections
We inspire all TK-8 learners through a foundational, hands-on learning model that develops cross-curriculum connections. Our rigorous academics program includes an innovative Writers Workshop curriculum that engages young learners with daily writing projects, on topics of their own choosing. Unique cross-age middle school classrooms bring students from different grades together to work on projects. Mentoring and buddy programs in our lower elementary grades instill responsibility in our youngest learners.
A Commitment to Social Justice
Our progressive school embraces diversity and environmental stewardship. We are the only school in our area that challenges students to dream their futures through a lens of social justice, and supports their critical thinking skills and engagement in the world around us. Our students are service learners, volunteering in our community during and after school hours. We are inspiring tomorrow’s leaders!
Project-Based Learning
Our blended project-based learning model encourages academically motivated students to step out of regular classroom curriculum to explore topics at a pace and depth that they determine. Hands-on learning through on-site vegetable gardens and campus animals teaches students about biology and ecology in a real-world setting.
Cooperative Community Involvement
Since our founding, SDCCS has always been more than a school – we are a cooperative community of students, parents, and teachers, and community members that work together to ensure student success. We are the oldest cooperative charter school in San Diego, and one of only two TK-8 cooperative schools in the state of California. Volunteer parents and community members help out in our classrooms and on field trips and service learning projects. Our students participate in our local Arbor Day and International Day of Peace festivals, help out with environmental clean up projects, and volunteer throughout the school year in lots of different ways. This partnership with our community is unique to SDCCS, and inherent to the vision that founded our school.
At San Diego Cooperative Charter School, we maintain a 20 year tradition of academic excellence through innovative educational practices. Is your child ready to thrive? Contact us and learn more today!
