At San Diego Cooperative Charter School (SDCCS) our tuition-free charter school is known for our warm and caring TK-8 learning environment. To get to know more about the people behind our school culture, we recently chatted with SDCCS Office Manager Erica Briseno. Here’s what she had to say!
Erica Briseno, Office Manager
When did you know you wanted to be an educator or staff member in the education field?
I knew I wanted to become a staff member when I started volunteering in my son’s kindergarten class. I knew I wanted to be part of this community in a different capacity and I wanted to bring my skills to the table.
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
I would love to pick more than just one teacher as we have such amazing educators. However, Ms. Morgan was my favorite. She helped me better understand my son’s diagnosis and how to help with my son’s autism. She regularly helps educate parents and students in his classroom.
How does SDCCS’s mission and vision align with your personal values?
I firmly believe in the vision of a community working together with parents to help mold our children into empathetic, well-rounded, and passionate individuals. Teaching our children to advocate for themselves is such a great tool for the future.
What do you love most about your role?
I love my role, it truly makes me feel like I’m making a difference. I have never worked in an environment where you feel so appreciated by the admin team, staff, parents, and students. I have the satisfaction of seeing students come back and let me know the difference I have made in their lives.
What else would you like us to know about YOU?
I started out as a parent at SDCCS in 2014 and have been here ever since.
