“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” – Desmond Tutu

How we treat the world today will determine the future we find tomorrow. San Diego Cooperative Charter School is a TK-8 tuition-free school that was founded with a vision to cultivate socially conscious students who make real and relevant connections between our curriculum and the outside world. For some students, that can mean environmental stewardship. For others it can mean taking care of one another. For all students, it means understanding that they can make a difference – today and tomorrow.

Caring for Our Community

At SDCCS, students learn about the challenges facing our world – from global warming in the Arctic to food scarcity in San Diego – and are encouraged to creatively problem solve. We take learning outside of our classrooms and volunteer in neighborhood cleanup efforts, food drives, and more. Each year our students reach out to our sister schools in Mexico to arrange donations of supplies and materials.  Age-appropriate social justice education engages every grade in understanding the roles that empathy, responsibility and courage can take in standing up for moral beliefs. Our younger students practice intentional kindness and gratitude. SDCCS older grades study the impact of bias and injustice on the world, historically and today, and our middle schoolers can choose a year-long elective that partners with local businesses and nonprofits on school-day volunteer opportunities.  We are proud of our warm and caring progressive school culture, and each year our entire school community celebrates the International Day of Peace with a family-friendly march through neighboring Linda Vista. Together we chant “Peace is a Choice!”.

Growing Up Green

Visitors to the SDCCS campus see firsthand the ways we incorporate environmental education into our school. From campus gardens to chickens and ducks, our students are hands-on caring for animals and learning about the growing cycle. We celebrate Arbor Day alongside family and friends with tree planting and beautification activities on our campus. And our commitment to the climate is something that every SDCCS student can participate in – from recycling initiatives at lunchtime to simple energy conservation at home. We’re green! San Diego Coop Charter School is a unique learning community that cares for our world – and its people, plants and animals too! Ready to join our community? Contact us and enroll today!
